This film was set in colonial India and is a story of the difficult interaction between the English and the native Indian population.  It was nominated for 11 Academy Awards.

John only had a 'bit part' in the film and his part is not credited.  However he appears twice (unless I've missed another appearance!) Firstly as a dancer on stage.  As you can see wearing a fetching straw hat and clutching a tennis racket and secondly in the background at a dance.
