I have researched this page using www.us.imdb.com and "Who's Who On Television" by Anthony Hayward. Pub. 1996. I hope the list is complete but if you have details on anything that doesn't appear in the list please email me and let me know. Additionally if you have any further information on John's roles in the various shows also let me know and I will include them on the site.

Most of John's TV appearances have been as DI Ross in Taggart, which are covered by the Taggart section on this site, but below is, I hope a comprehensive list of the rest!!

I am hoping to continue my research into his different roles and include a review of each but remember if you can help with any please do!!

With a voice like John's ie one you could listen to all day, he is kept very busy doing voice overs for TV programmes, adverts etc. He has leant his voice to anything from a documentary about James Hunt to Audi cars and from Pearl Harbour to the Pentium Four Processor!

Tracking down information about John's many theatre appearances hasn't been easy, but I hope you enjoy what I have managed to find - especially the rather lovely photos!!

SIMPLY DISCONNECTED - 1996 - Chichester Festival Theatre

John played 'Greg' in this play written by Simon Gray, starring Alan Bates and directed by Richard Wilson.

The play ran from 8th May 1996 - 1st June 1996

PRIVATE MATTER - 1978 - Donvan Maule Theatre, Nairobi, Kenya

These newspaper clippings were sent to me by Charles Burgin who remembers seeing John at the Donovan Maule Theatre all those years ago. John would've been 22 years old when he appeared in this play

RICHARD III - played Hastings. John mentions this play during the Directors Commentary to Monk Dawson (DVD extra). He worked with the actor who played the doctor in Monk Dawson in Richard III.

THE ONE BEFORE LAST - Offstage Theatre. This play was about the life of the war poet Rubert Brooke, who wrote the beautiful poem 'The Soldier'

Queens Theatre

First Performance was 24th April 1984

A comedy by Jean Anouilh.

EASY VIRTUE - played John

The Garrick Theatre.

Play written by Noel Coward

The show ran from 21st April 1988 until 7th January 1989

This, one of Noel Coward's least revived plays is set in the 1920s

PRIN - played Walker

The Lyric Theatre

The play ran from 1st December 1989 until the 10th February 1990

Written by Andrew Davies.

Directed by Richard Wilson (One Foot In The Grave)

The Story: Prin (Sheila Hancock) leads a women's teacher training college in the pursuit of excellence. The audience share one day with her in which despite her fading influence around the college she is forced to deal with Dibs (Susie Blake), her vice principal and with a sex-crazed member of staff, Walker (John)

MEASURE FOR MEASURE - Playhouse Theatre, Harlow - Oct 1990. Played Vincentio

For the OXFORD STAGE COMPANY John had the lead role in Ranjit Bolt's translation of DON JUAN and played the Duke in MEASURE FOR MEASURE

Apparently John is one of the founder members of Relief Theatre, whose first performance was The Ruffian On The Stair which was performed at the 1987 Edinburgh Festival. I'm struggling to find out any further info about this.
