John played Gary Burns in this half hour episode of The Bill.

His character was an ex professional footballer who now coached his son's school team.

It transpires that his son is being bullied at school and Gary decides to put a stop to it by leaving the bully locked up in the club house all night.  Ultimately this only makes the situation worse leaving his son forced to hide from the bullies.  Gary tells his son to pull himself together and stand up to the bullies - he does by interfering with the brake cables on the bully's bike.  The bully has a near fatal road accident as a result.

John played an ex footballer in Wire In The Blood - he obviously fits the required elements!!
